The coast of Huelva is a point and apart from the Spanish coast. Located where the Atlantic hits the Mediterranean, has the longest and most beautiful beaches of Spain. Fine sand, unspoilt nature and a deep cultural and historical heritage, make this land a luxury for the senses. Visitors feel the break in their skin, while contemplating the future of the waves, the beauty of the coastal towns or while looking at the tops of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche. Ayamonte, Doñana, Lepe or Palos de la Frontera are just some of the magic places here.

History

Huelva has been for thousands years, a human settling civilization, no doubt attracted by the natural riches of the region and its strategic location. In the Neolithic period, these lands have a first splendor, thanks to the large amount of metals that are among the rocks (eg, Cueva de la Mora). During the Roman conquest, Huelva becomes focus of salt production and trade. With the arrival of the Arabs, Huelva became a strategic military site. However, their best was the discovery of America, during the Catholic Kings, at which time the ongoing transatlantic commerce transforms the entire area. Centuries later, after a period of decline, Huelva knows again thanks to sustained economic dynamism mining. Today, tourism and intensive farming are its main engines.

Gastronomy

Two stars light up the culinary scene of Huelva: serrano ham and seafood products. Ham from Huelva is known internationally and is one of the greatest prides of the earth. The fish and seafood, like 'fried fish', shrimp, prawns, or the choco Coquina visitors leave happy. Dishes like skate in paprika and beans are great with chocolate. Pork sausages obtained crowd, tenderloin or top quality dishes like stew offal. Other meats held in the region too are hunting and the bull, combined with a wine from the region. The bakery, with Ganot, pestiños, roscos anise or torrijas is, as in the rest of Andalusia, as forceful as tasty.

Places of Interest

Huelva is a destination that, because of its proximity to other locations, allows views of the highest interest on a short tour. In Jerez, the show highlights escuestre of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. In Cadiz, the port, the Plaza of the Constitution with the monument to the Cortes, La Alameda Apodaca, Caleta, San Sebastian Castle and the Cathedral. Obviously, for nature lovers, Doñana is obligatory: The park is formed by ecosystems, wetlands, dunes, pine forests and their fauna released. If you have time, you have to get to Seville to see La Virgen de la Macarena, the Spanish Steps, the Barrio de Santa Cruz, la Maestranza, the Cathedral or Alcázares. In Huelva, you can visit the Virgin of Rocío and the 'White Dove', which gathers every year hundreds of thousands of fervent believers.
